Privacy Policy

Mothers 4 Justice Ubuntu is committed to making sure that your personal information is protected and never misused. ‘Personal information’ relates to any data which could directly or indirectly be used to identify you – for example your name, email or telephone number.

Our privacy policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and explains the control you have over your personal information and the procedures we have in place to protect it.

What personal data we collect

We collect personal data when you sign up to any of our online forms or join one of our events on Zoom. We might also collect personal data via paper sign up forms, for example petitions or event registrations. The data we collect includes:

  • Non-personal information such as IP addresses (the location of the computer on the internet), pages accesses and files downloaded. This helps us to oversee activity on our website. This information doesn’t tell us anything about who you are or your address, but it allows us to monitor and improve our services.
  • Personal information such as an individual’s name, postal address, email address and phone number. We will also hold details of any donations, campaign actions or transactional services you may make with us, together with your marketing communications preferences. We will hold a record of our communications with you and any communications with us.

Why we collect it

  1. We will only ask for or collect the personal information that we need to talk to you about our work – such as event attendance, volunteering, campaigning, fundraising and donating.
  2. We aim to give you control over the personal information we hold about you to make sure it is accurate. To check, amend or erase any personal information, contact m4jubuntu@gmail.com.
  3. Personal data is only processed by members of the Executive Committee of Mothers 4 Justice Ubuntu.
  4. The lawful basis on which we collect data under GDPR is for the legitimate interest of direct marketing. The term ‘direct marketing’ is interpreted broadly by the authorities to include our purposes as an organisation, namely campaigning.
  5. The data collected is used for the purpose of monitoring our activities and informing you about our events and campaigns, soliciting donations, and involving you in the activities and decision making processes of Mothers 4 Justice Ubuntu. We will not process your data for any purpose other than the purposes stated in this privacy policy.
  6. We aim to make sure your personal information is always secure and protected. Where we use trusted third party sites such as Zoom, Google, Eventbrite and Paypal to collect and store data relating to our activities, please consult their websites for their privacy policies.
  7. We aim to be fair and transparent about how we use the personal information we hold, and will only ever use your personal information for the purpose that you trusted us to use it for.
  8. We will never sell your personal information and only share it as outlined in our privacy policy, or when you ask us to.
  9. We respect your choices and will tell you if there are important changes that affect your personal information or how we use it.
  10. We take responsibility for the personal information that we hold about you. In the unlikely event of a security breach which compromises our protection of personal information, and we need to let you know about it, we will do so.
